You can send an email message (or a file attached to it) to your own computer, on the hard drive (C:) but is is a two step process. First you have to EXPORT it to a file in your personal home directory on Chebucto Community Net. To try this, you might want to export this message by typing 'e' for Export, and when prompted for a filename, call it something that will remind you what it is, say 'export1' - without the quotes, of course. The second step is to DOWNLOAD the file from your CCN personal directory to your own computer. Get out of email, and type 'gfiles' - short for 'go to your files'. That will take you to a list of your files. Use the UP and DOWN arrows to highlight the filename you chose when you exported the file. Then press 'd' for download. That will take you to a short list of download options. The choices are to use 'kermit' or 'zmodem'. Zmodem is usually easier to figure out, and typically faster - if your communications software supports it. The next few steps depend on what type of computer you have, what software you use to communicate with CCN, and what version of that software you have. If you need help with downloading files, send another message to 'userhelp@chebucto.ns.ca' and let us know what type of computer and software your are using, and there is a very good chance that someone here on 'userhelp' will be able to help. I suggest that you get the downloading process figured out first, and then tackle the opposite direction. It is very similar. That is also a two step process. First you upload a file to your CCN directory, from which you can then import it into the body of an email message - if it is a plain text message. If it is a Word Perfect document (or Excel spreadsheet, a graphic image, whatever) you can still send it as an attachment to the message.
